Take a break
Updated: Aug 26, 2022
Hard work pays off. It’s true. Although, what good is all that hard work if you can’t take a break once in a while. It is easy to get stuck in a routine. I’m talking everyday you wake up, drink the same cup of coffee and take the same route to work just to sit in the same traffic everyday driving home. Wash, rinse, repeat. For so many people, this is life. But what if we all made a genuine effort to stop and take a break once in a while to truly appreciate life in the moment? Think about it.
Let me just say, no matter what anyone tells you, there is no shame in stepping away from day to day life periodically to recharge. Let's be honest, we all need it. So let's acknowledge it. I highly recommend trying something new as often as you can. Let go of what little control you have and see where life takes you.
Letting go
As I’m writing this blog, I am sitting in a train car from Portland to Seattle. This is my first time riding the Amtrak and let me just say, I’m proud of my decision to not only try something new but also take a step back and breathe. Find outlets you enjoy that recharge your energy. Venture out into nature, go for a run, read a book and check in with yourself. There are so many elements of modern life that are endlessly draining. How are you supposed to show up for yourself and others if you've got nothing left to give?
Your work isn't going anywhere, I promise.
Riding down the rainy Oregon Coast, I was struck with the importance of truly letting go. I ultimately made the choice to be here but someone else is in control of the train. I’m just a passenger. Once I get off, the train will keep moving.
The Power of Choice
Being creatures of habit, we become so comfortable with our daily routines we forget how little control we truly have. So we cling to the elements of life we do have control of. Our choices being the greatest amount of control we possess. If you’re fed up, unhappy or drained, save yourself the time and do something to change it. Challenge yourself, be brave and go for it.
I understand that sometimes in life it can feel impossible to make a change. Choices are difficult to say the least. So when you need help or support ask for it. We’ve all been there. Keep in mind that when you are uncomfortable or scared you are creating so much room for growth. Trust your gut. You’re on the right track.
This is your sign to stop and reassess. Take a break when you need it and enjoy the little things in life. Not only will this inspire your work but also make you genuinely more present in your daily life.
